One of the most effective ways we can serve our clients is to stay active in the community. Participating in community events and professional panels allows us to stay informed of the latest financial developments and information, and to pass this important information along to you. Our firm hosts an annual Estate and Financial Planning Seminar each fall. This year's speakers have included Mr. James Vitt, an estate attorney and planner, Mrs. Julia Rogers, speaking on estate administration matters, Mr. Matt Kurz, an investment advisor from Wells Fargo, and Mrs. Lisa Kern, an investment advisor from Davenport & Company. These events are open to the public at no charge and offer individuals an opportunity to meet potential advisors and obtain advice. At the state level, we proudly support the Virginia Society of CPAs, including its Educational Foundation which provides accounting scholarship funding and its Political Action Committee which provides bipartisan support to business minded candidates at the state and local level. Julia Rogers is Treasurer of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the VSCPA which provides continuing education and networking opportunities to CPAs in the Charlottesville and Nelson county area. Julia Rogers is Chair-Elect of the VSCPA Tax Advisory Committee which reviews feedback from VSCPA members on tax issues and provides information to the VSCPA on tax issues and legislation. This committee also conducts policy analysis and makes recommendations to the VSCPA Board of Directors on regulatory and legislative issues which are included in official comment letters and other interactions with the Internal Revenue Service and the Virginia Department of Taxation. In the Wintergreen community, we proudly support the Summer Music Festival of the Wintergreen Performing Arts and the Sara Ott Memorial Golf Classic of The Wintergreen Nature Foundation. These organizations enhance the rich quality of life that we enjoy in Nelson County. Both organizations also have outreach programs in the community to share their resources with the Nelson County school systems. In Nelson County, we look for opportunities to encourage business development and networking throughout the county. We proudly support the Nelson County Community Day - an annual summer fair which highlights our local business and provides fun family activities. Julia Rogers also serves on the Board of the Nelson County Chamber of Commerce which provides networking opportunities for local businesses and highlights new businesses with ribbon cutting celebrations.
